Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba filmed in tense exchange at Man United training

This speaks volumes

Jose Mourinho might insist that there is “no problem at all” with Paul Pogba but these images would suggest otherwise.

Pogba was left out of the matchday squad for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup exit at home to Derby County on Tuesday night just hours after Mourinho revealed that the midfielder would no longer be United’s vice-captain.

Pogba was in the stands at Old Trafford when United went out of the League Cup on penalties and ahead of the game, his manager would not expand on his decision to take the armband away from the Frenchman.

“The only truth is that I made the decision for him not to be second captain any more but there is no fallout, no problem,” Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

“I am the manager I can make these decisions.”

Mourinho added: “No fallout at all, no problem at all, just a decision that I don’t have to explain.”

If the United boss really wanted us to believe that there was no issue with the club’s record signing, he should have put on a better performance at training on Wednesday morning.

Sky Sports cameras captured a tense exchange between Pogba and Mourinho when the 25-year-old made his way on to the training pitch at Carrington.

After shaking hands with Michael Carrick, Pogba jogged over to his manager but he received a less friendly welcome.

Mourinho said something which prompted a shocked reaction from Pogba and the heated conversation continued as they joined the group.

Pogba defended his comments earlier this week on his desire to see United “attack, attack, attack” after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The France international claimed his remark was taken out of context and twisted to make it sound like he was being critical of Mourinho’s footballing philosophy.
