A pensioner in a mobility scooter caused a spectacular crash during cycling race in Germany yesterday afternoon.
The high-speed crash occurred during a UCI Junior Nations Cup race after a woman on a mobility scooter edged onto the road while repositioning her scooter just as the peloton was passing.
One cyclist managed to squeeze past the scooter, however others weren't so lucky.
One participant hit the scooter at full speed, sending them flying off their bike and causing a number of other cyclists fly off their bikes and hit the tarmac.
According to Eemeli from First Cycling, 'the riders involved escaped without serious injuries'.
“Obviously, incidents like this are almost impossible to eliminate entirely, which is why spectators also have a responsibility to use COMMON SENSE and stay off the race course.”
Disastrous!
